Brunette Machinery Introduces Retract-to-Load Log Singulator

Surrey, BC–Brunette Machinery Co., located here, has unveiled its state-of-the-art Retract-to-Load® (RTL) Log Singulator to the forestry products market.

The RTL has already proven to reduce maintenance costs and improve piece counts to help mills increase productivity and efficiency while feeding logs and reducing downtime, a company statement said.

The RTL has two main advantages over other systems: the Retract-to-Load® (RTL) nose and the Negative Inertia Drive System. The patented RTL nose piece provides secondary log singulation right at the top of the unit. The RTL cradles the log directly above the feed conveyor. As the unit retracts below the framework, the log quickly, but gently, drops down into the conveyor below. In addition to better singulation, the RTL improves log gap control and conveyor maintenance.

The Negative Inertia Drive System is also unique to the Brunette RTL Log Singulator. The crank-arm connected to the shaft of the gear reducer has its zero point (parked position) set at the top of the drive cycle, creating system energy pre-load. At this point, all of the torque required to initiate the lifting cycle is negative, creating negative inertia which increases acceleration and significantly reduces energy consumption, according to the company.
