“With warehousing across North America, our products are easily sampled and tested without large initial truckload commitments. This is ideal for distributors who we rely on to serve the downstream demands of the retail customers.” -Bob Uglow, Head of Sales, Baillie Ripping Division, Baillie Group
Baillie’s new secondary manufacturing facility in Sherburne, NY, has expanded the company’s offerings from ripped-to-width moulder blanks to moulded hardwood products.
For decades the experienced professionals with the Baillie Group have been working with hardwood users to develop custom sorted lumber solutions designed to help manufacturers improve yields and decrease costs. As a resource-based company, they are ready to serve the softwood industry with poplar, Yellow Pine and other value added hardwood products.
About 10 years ago, the Baillie Ripping Division was created to focus exclusively on valued added ripped-to-width lumber solutions designed to support the kitchen cabinet manufacturing industry. In 2022, they broadened their product offerings with the investment of a 12” jointed, high speed moulder enabling them to offer moulded products like ship lap and T&G, as well as S4S trim boards.
The Baillie Group has the ability to provide customer specific packaging and tagging, as pictured here in this S4S package sample.
Today, this team is able to serve customers from three different facilities strategically positioned throughout the United States. The main manufacturing facility for the Baillie Ripping Division is located in Sherburne, NY. This facility operates two ripped-to-width lines that convert random width hardwood lumber into moulder ready blanks, exact width mouldings, ship lap, trim boards, and more. The facility leverages its Wood-Eye Scanning technology to produce a repeatable grade of product over and over ensuring consistency and reliability for customers.

As part of the overall Baillie Group, this team has access to an unmatched level of lumber supply, including FSC material, and a species variety which includes poplar from all parts of the U.S., and Southern Yellow Pine from their Donalds, SC, facility.

The Baillie Ripping Division provides several customized services. Tally and length packaging, custom grades, part number labelling and custom tagging are just a few of the services offered. “We pride ourselves on speaking our customers language and packaging our products in a way that helps our customers be more efficient,” said Joe Zbicki, head of Value Added Production at the Baillie Group.

The Baillie Sherburne, NY, facility is close in proximity to the Baillie Lumber Smyrna concentration yard, one of the largest hardwood drying facilities on the east coast. This allows customers to combine trim boards and moulded products with rough lumber, helping keep inventory and freight costs minimized.
“With warehousing across all of North America, our products are easily sampled and tested without large initial truckload commitments,” said Bob Uglow, Head of Sales, Baillie Ripping Division. “This is ideal for distributors who we rely on to serve the downstream demands of the retail customers.”
