Alex Lindsay

Alex Lindsay is an emerging lumber trader, specializing in Southern Yellow Pine for Skana Forest Products Ltd. located in Richmond, BC. His focus being the Central and Midwest United States, the company meanwhile distributes all over North America.

Skana carries Southern Yellow Pine, Spruce-Pine-Fir, Douglas Fir and Western Red Cedar in all grades and sizes, including 1” boards, timbers, and plywood. Operating multiple reman facilities in Western Canada, Skana also offers vendor managed inventories as well as mill protected contracts.

Lindsay has spent the entirety of his 3 years in the lumber industry with Skana, starting in June of 2021. Prior to which he attended the University of Victoria, in Victoria, BC studying Political Science. He also lived and worked abroad in Melbourne, Australia for close to 3 years before returning to Canada to start his career. In his spare time, Lindsay finds himself in the mountains hiking and snowboarding, while also playing golf and baseball in the summer.

Skana Forest Products Ltd. is a member of various industry organizations that include the British Columbia, Machine Stress Rated Council, Western Red Cedar Lumber Association, Western Retail Lumber Association, International Wood Products Association, Western Wood Truss Association of British Columbia and the Building Supply Industry Association of British Columbia.

Jake Parker

Jake Parker is the account executive for Legna Software, LLC, in Winston-Salem, NC. Operating in the U.S. and Canada, Legna is an enterprise software company that provides cutting-edge supply chain software for the forest products industry.

Legna Software’s Angel, a cloud-based, industry-leading wood and fiber procurement platform, provides real-time visibility from stump to scale to settlement. Tallyworks is an on-site platform for lumber production and sales.

Legna’s team is comprised of experts with domain knowledge from multiple areas in the industry. In-house software engineers are continuously innovating and refining their products. According to a company representative, they provide premier service to guarantee success for their customers.

Parker attended Perry High School in Perry, GA, and afterward, he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Applied Biotechnology in 2017 and a Master of Forest Resources in Forest Business in 2019 from the University of Georgia in Athens, GA.

Parker has been in the forest products industry for five years. He started as a procurement forester with Georgia-Pacific, where he bought wood for two lumber mills, a plywood mill, and a pulp mill. He has also held policy and research roles for the Georgia Forestry Association and the Harley Langdale Jr. Center for Forest Business as an intern and a graduate assistant. Parker has been with Legna Software for two years.

In his free time, Parker enjoys hunting, fishing, running, golf and leatherwork.

Legna Software is a member of the Southeastern Lumber Manufacturers Association, Mississippi Lumber Manufacturers Association, Forest Resource Association and National Hardwood Lumber Association.

Thomas Compa

Thomas Compa recently marked one year as a lumber trader for Patrick Lumber Company (PLC), headquartered in Philomath, OR.

A secondary lumber manufacturer with customers across the world, PLC produces more than 40 million board feet annually of Douglas Fir, Western Red Cedar, Alaskan Yellow Cedar, Hemlock, Southern Yellow Pine and alder in higher-grade rough KD, VG clears, DF timbers, STK, and finished patterns. It also offers custom remanufacturing and milling.

Prior to joining PLC, Compa’s work in the forest products industry included his role as an export coordinator for an organization that sells dimensional lumber and building material products in Japanese and Australian markets, and the time he spent manufacturing and selling kayak kits made from okuome plywood as a teenager.

After graduating from Port Townsend High School in Port Townsend, WA, Compa continued his education at Portland State University in Portland, OR, where he received his Bachelor of Science in social science with a minor in psychology.

Married 10 years in August, he and his wife Ann have two sons: 4 years old and 6 years old. In his free time, Compa spends time with his family in Portland, OR, and travels to Bend, OR, whenever he gets the chance. He also enjoys riding his bike, golfing and “skiing up on Mount Hood.”

PLC maintains memberships with the North American Wholesale Lumber Association, National Hardwood Lumber Association, Softwood Export Council, Southern Forest Products Association, Western Wood Products Association, International Order of Hoo-Hoo, Pacific Lumber Exporters Association and Portland Wholesale Lumber Association.

Troy Little

Troy Little is the executive vice president of the wood products division at Boise Cascade. Headquartered in Boise, ID, Boise Cascade is a limited liability company with sales regions across the United States, that produces 363 million board feet of lumber annually.

Boise Cascade manufactures Boise Glulam®, in Douglas Fir/Larch or Alaskan Yellow Cedar, Sturd-I-Floor® Plywood in Western and Southern Yellow Pine, concrete form in Southern Yellow Pine, sanded plywood in various grades, beaded siding in thick, high quality face veneer, as well as sheathing in Western and Southern Yellow Pine.

Boise Cascade also offers Ponderosa Pine in appearance grade and industrial and shop lumber, and Southern Yellow Pine in landscape timbers.

Little joined the Wood Products division in 1990 as an internal auditor. He has a broad range of experience on both the financial side and the operational side, including serving as regional manager for six manufacturing facilities in Oregon. Little became division controller in 2016, financial manager in 2018, and added commodity sales to his responsibilities in 2021.

He was recently promoted to executive vice president. He has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the College of Idaho. Little currently serves on the boards of the Bishop Kelly High School Foundation in Boise as well as the Western Wood Products Association.

Boise Cascade is a member of the North American Wholesale Lumber Association, National Association of Home Builders and The Engineered Wood Association.
