Curtis Lumber Gains JAY-K Independent Lumber Corp.
The Ballston Spa, NY, based company Curtis Lumber, purchased New Hartford, NY, based company, JAY-K Independent Lumber Corp. An ongoing relationship between the two lumber businesses is expected to aid a worry-free transition for all associated with the companies.
This will also allow Curtis Lumber to plan a strategic consolidation with one of its nearby locations. The business will also be closing their Waterville, NY, location, which is 15 miles south of the destination for the New Hartford store and will, according to Kylie Holland, the executive vice president of Curtis Lumber, give the company an opportunity for increased efficiency regarding their fleet, staffing and inventory. All Waterville location employees will be able to join the New Hartford team or the team at another Curtis Lumber location. The Waterville location is expected to close on April 1, 2025.
Holland explained that shared values between the companies, a focus on their employee and customer experience, in addition to a commitment to their communities, inspires confidence in the success of the acquisition.
Curtis Lumber Company was founded in 1890 and serves the Eastern, Northern and Central, NY, and Vermont regions. The company has over 700 employees serving across all locations, which total 23 after the Waterville consolidation and JAY-K addition. All locations are family-owned, independent with full-service home centers and building supply yards in addition to a delivery fleet of nearly 100 trucks.
JAY-K has been serving customers for 88 years through three generations and the vice president of JAY-K, Jonas Kelly, is proud of their local, family-owned company and is excited about the potential they have with Curtis Lumber’s acquisition. JAY-K offers a range of lumber, supplies, building materials, tools and hardware to assist with construction, renovation projects and other building needs.

North American Giant Boise Cascade Expands Millwork Division
Operating 14 millwork locations specializing in interior and exterior doors, frames, hardware and refinishing options, Boise Cascade recently added a 15th notch to their belt in the fast-growing market. This new notch is a millwork location in conjunction with their Milton, FL, facility, which will allow the company to supply Therma-Tru® products throughout the entirety of Florida. Boise Cascade is a chief wholesale distributor of building products and one of the largest producers of engineered wood products and plywood in North America.
This 15th addition to the Boise, ID, based company is possible due to the purchase of the assets of the Parksite door shop in Lakeland, FL, a transaction only involving their Florida door shop. The agreement does not include the remaining 22 Parksite locations and products that will continue to be operated and owned by Parksite.
Planning to expand the Parksite Florida door shop’s offerings, which include a wide selection of premium entry and decorative glass doors with premium finish options, such as Therma-Tru® and PrismaGuard®, Boise Cascade will continue operations there and expand the product line by adding Simpson® interior flush and moulded doors.
“The chief operating officer of Boise Cascade’s wood products and building materials distribution divisions, Jeff Strom, is excited to add the members of the Parksite Florida door shop team to their own. Strom commented that this acquisition should expand their millwork business in the South therefore permitting an even broader reach for their customers.
Ron Heitzman, the CEO of Parksite explained that in 2017, they began the Lakeland door shop from scratch and they expect customer service capabilities and opportunities for the associates working in the business to expand due to Boise Cascade’s acquisition. Heitzman complimented Boise, saying that in the Therma-Tru® door business, the company is a leader.
