A tour of the Kane Hardwood sawmill in Kane, PA, was a highlight of the recent Penn-York Lumbermen’s Club meeting, which was hosted by Collins Kane Hardwood.

The Penn-York meeting included dinner and an association meeting, featuring guest speaker U.S. Congressman Glenn “G.T.” Thompson. That was followed the next day by networking opportunities via a golf game and sporting clays.

Kane also hosted attendees at an open house to celebrate the new energy efficient “passive house” building: Six&Kane. The building is part of a sustainable energy movement to make structures airtight to reduce their energy needs for heating and cooling.

Regarding Kane Hardwood, the company website noted Kane is situated in the 119,000-acre Collins Pennsylvania Forest in the Allegheny Mountains of northwest Pennsylvania. Kane’s sawmill produces approximately 24 million board feet annually and dries 14 million board feet annually. Lumber species available include: Red and White Oak, Hard and Soft Maple, Poplar, Birch, Basswood and Black Cherry in thicknesses of 4/4-12/4. Lengths are 4 feet through 16 feet.

More information about the above products is listed at www.collinsco.com/locations/kane.

The next Penn-York meeting is scheduled for July 15 in Franklin, PA and will be hosted by Ron Jones Hardwood Sales.
