NELA Tackles Topics At Recent Winter Meeting

The New England Lumbermen’s Association (NELA) kicked off their new year with the annual winter meeting which was held at the Inn at Northampton in Northampton, MA.
The day began with coffee and networking for the 80 attendees from all over the northeast and Canada. After a buffet-styled lunch, the members attended the popular “business discussion” that was moderated by newly appointed president, Jean St. Jean of Hull Forest Products in Pomfret Center, CT. Jean delicately massaged open conversation amongst the members regarding log supplies at various sawmills, as well as the mood of the room for present and future markets.
The overall sentiment was one of guarded optimism.
At the time of the meeting, the U.S. had just entered a war with Iran and it was yet to be determined the impact this situation would have on fuel prices. Bob Chase of Quabbin Timber gave his report on the current and future housing markets for both the northeast and other parts of the country.
After a long discussion it was time for the group to blow off some steam and enjoy Happy Hour at the hotel bar. Later in the evening, the 50 members who were staying the night were treated to dinner with friends.
The next NELA meeting is in early June.
