CHB Welcomes Nearly 100 At Spring Event 1

The Canadian Hardwood Bureau (CHB) held its annual spring meeting in Montreal, QC, at the Double Tree by Hilton Montreal with almost 100 delegates attending.

The program started with an informative lunch presentation on hardwood promotion. Adam Taylor, professor and Wood Products Extension Specialist, University of Tennessee, who also studied at University of New Brunswick and University of Toronto, was the keynote speaker. He touched on the CHB’s recent efforts to promote hardwoods and key messaging for professional audiences.

Chairman Shaun Rowe, of Quality Hardwoods, updated members on recent Bureau activities, including the preparation of a joint tariff statement with the NHLA, and CHB’s efforts to distribute it to Canadian and provincial officials. The schedule provided some important opportunities for networking at the CHB reception, which was once again sponsored by HUB International Quebec.

The meeting program wrapped up with a breakfast presentation, sponsored by Stella-Jones Inc. Kate Lindsay, Senior Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer, Forest Products Association of Canada (FPAC), spoke about the EUDR – EU’s Deforestation Regulation, updating members on all the latest developments. Lindsay also provided some sources where future updates will be available.

The annual Industry Hockey Game was again held in conjunction with the CHB meeting. Two full teams faced off in another classic match, this year at a new location, Place Bell in Laval. Thanks to Jean-Paul Lupien for organizing this activity.

The next CHB meeting will be held at the National Hardwood Lumber Association Convention in the fall (Oct. 1-3) in San Antonio, Texas.
