AWMA Discusses Ways To Promote Walnut, Especially Abroad

Cleveland, OH–The American Walnut Manufacturers Association (AWMA) met here in conjunction with the National Hardwood Lumber Association convention recently to conduct their bi-annual membership meeting of the association. A primary discussion point was the concern for continuing declines in both green and kiln-dried lumber pricing. The entire membership is faced with declining pricing but demand for products varied by region. Exporting to Southeast Asia and Europe has declined for most members and for some, it has stopped for the time being. Concerns about exporting to China were expressed by the entire membership.

Executive Director Brian Brookshire discussed his recent trip to Bangalore, India on behalf of the membership. AWMA is interested in increasing Walnut’s presence in India and feels that it is a focal point for new marketing efforts. The decision was made for AWMA to have a presence at Indiawood and Dubai WoodShow in 2023.

AWMA’s next meeting will be held in conjunction with the Indiana Hardwood Lumbermen’s Association (IHLA) meeting in 2023.
