

APA – The Engineered Wood Association welcomes Matthew Hunter as the new director of codes and standards.
Matthew Hunter
Matthew will spearhead APA’s work advancing building codes and developing manufacturing and performance standards.
Prior to joining APA, Matthew was the Northeast regional manager for the American Wood Council. He has also worked as a building inspector, civil engineering designer and field inspector, and is an active-duty Army veteran.
As a member of the International Code Council (ICC), he holds 12 ICC certifications and serves on both the ICC Sustainability Membership Council and the Sustainable Energy High Performance Code Action Committee.
In 2024, he was named ICC Educator of the Year. He is also a published author, in 2023 he co-wrote a paper, “Review of the Code Development Efforts for Tall Mass Timber Buildings in the U.S.,” that was featured at the World Conference on Timber Engineering in Oslo, Norway. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in environmental design from Delaware Valley University.

Jacquelyn Miller, EIT, joined APA as the new Midwest Engineered Wood Specialist.
Jacquelyn brings a robust technical foundation and a passion for sustainability in her role. Based in the Chicago suburbs, she has a deep connection to her region, having lived in half of the states within her territory. Jacquelyn earned a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering and a minor in Spanish from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
She is currently pursuing her MBA at Utah State University. She began her career as a structural design engineer in Cincinnati, working on diverse residential and commercial projects and contributing to sustainability initiatives. Outside of work, Jacquelyn enjoys hiking, kayaking, biking and baking— especially cupcakes.

Lindsey Kuster is APA’s new engineered wood specialist for the Southwest territory.
Based in San Diego, she covers California, Arizona, Nevada and New Mexico. She brings to APA a passion for educating building professionals about sustainable design with engineered wood products. Lindsey has over seven years of structural engineering experience working on new and existing buildings in health care, education and civic projects.
She received her master’s degree in structural engineering from the University of California-San Diego and her bachelor’s in architectural engineering from California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo. Lindsey is a registered professional engineer in California. When she isn’t working, Lindsey enjoys swimming, camping, skiing and exploring the outdoors.

Patrick Schleisman joined APA as the engineered wood specialist for the Southeast.
Patrick is based in Atlanta, and covers Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi and Tennessee. He brings over 40 years of experience and wood product knowledge to APA. He studied civil engineering at Iowa State University, earning a master’s in business administration.
He began his career in construction management before transitioning to promoting wood products. Pat has a passion for sustainable design and educating designers, building professionals and code officials on the use of engineered wood.
