Metairie, LA–Seven Southern Pine sawmills have received the Southern Forest Products Association’s 2019 Sawmill Safety Award.

Ray White Lumber Co. of Sparkman, AR and Weyerhaeuser Co. in Zwolle, LA were recognized for outstanding safety records in Division 1 (sawmills that produce 50 million board feet or less annually). West Fraser in Opelika, AL and Whitehouse, FL won in Division 2 (produce 51 million to 150 million board feet), while Division 3 (produce over 150 million board feet) honors went to Weyerhaeuser Co. in Philadelphia, MS; Dodson, LA; and Millport, AL.

SFPA lumber-manufacturer members are considered for the award based on information submitted regarding occupational injuries and illnesses. Safety performance is judged by how each mill’s safety record compares to facilities with comparable lumber output. The 2019 results included reports from 52 mills that recorded nearly 18 million employee hours.

SFPA has represented manufacturers of Southern Pine lumber since 1915. Its member companies produce about half of the nation’s Southern Pine lumber.
