Pete Van Amelsfoort

Pete Van Amelsfoort is a green procurement and kiln-dried salesman for Quality Hardwoods Ltd.

Quality Hardwoods Ltd. is located in Powassan, Ontario. In addition to producing between 10-12 million board feet of high-quality northern hardwoods annually, the company also provides a wide range of services such as, D2S as required, container loading with export prep, width, length and color pulls upon request.

Quality Hardwoods Ltd. offers Hard and Soft Maple, White and Yellow Birch, Aspen, Red Oak and Ash in thicknesses 4/4 – 8/4.

The company is a member of a variety of industry associations including the National Hardwood Lumber Association, Indiana Hardwood Lumbermen’s Association, Penn-York Lumbermen’s Club, New England Lumbermen’s Association, the Lake States Lumber Association along with the Canadian Hardwood Bureau based in Canada.

Van Amelsfoort has been in his current position for 29 years and his first jobs in the forest industry were tree planting, cut block layout and tree marking for harvest blocks, which he did from 1976 to 1978.

He also has experience in annual logging plans, silvicultural stand improvement, sawmill trimming, grading, kiln operation and kiln management. After graduating Niagara District High School in 1974, Van Amelsfoort went on to graduate from Sir Sandford Fleming College with a diploma as a Forest Technician in 1976. He also attended trade school in 1978 to receive License #3996 as an Ontario log scaler and was part of the National Hardwood Lumber Association, Inspector Training School’s 85th class in December of 1984. He also attended several short courses on kiln-drying.

With his wife of 42 years, Gerri, he has three daughters, five grandsons and one favorite granddaughter. His hobbies include hockey, woodworking, biking and he is looking forward to building timber cottages.

LaDonne “Pudge” Shatzer-Tunnell

LaDonna “Pudge” Shatzer-Tunnell is the millwork sales supervisor and outside sales representative at OHC Overseas Hardwoods Company at their Lufkin, TX, location. OHC is headquartered in Mobile, AL, with other locations in Stockton, AL, San Leandro, CA, and Milwaukee, WI.

OHC is an importer and supplier of hardwood lumber for the marine, millwork, outdoor living and transportation industries. OHC also manufactures custom profiles for millwork applications, door stiles, flatbed trailer flooring, hardwood decking, siding and more. They sell all over the U.S. and also into Canada and Mexico.

OHC offers a variety of imported species from Africa, Asia, South America and Europe. The species that they offer include, African Mahogany, Afrormosia, Apitong/Keruing, Angelim Pedra, Black Limba, Bloodwood, Bosse, Bubinga, Canarywood, Cumaru, Edinam/Tiama, European Beech, Garapa, Genuine Mahogany, Ipe, Iroko, Jatoba, Jelutong, Lacewood, Makore, Mansonia, Marupa, Meranti, Nogal (Peruvian Walnut), Obeche, Okoume, Padauk, Purpleheart, Red Balau, Santos Mahogany, Sapele, Sipo, Spanish Cedar, Tigerwood and Wenge. OHC also offers composite decking in DuxxBak Dekk, modified wood for exterior use in Kebony and Dasso XTR Bamboo, live-edge cookie slabs, hardwood engineered doors, hardwood door stiles, Grad Concept hidden fastener system for decking and siding.

OHC’s custom manufacturing services include surfacing, sanding, pre-drilling, re-sawing, straight-line ripping, precision – end trimming, custom moulding, finger-jointing, CNC capabilities, gluing, RLT® (Road Load Tested) trailer flooring – their patented product for the transportation industry. OHC will also have an inhouse professional pre-coating of their lumber products soon.

Shatzer-Tunnell has been with OHC for six years as the company’s millwork sales supervisor and outside sales representative. She has been in the forest products industry since 1988 where she started as a log scaler’s assistant at Kitchen Brother sawmill in Monroe, LA. She also worked for Sitco Lumber Company, located in Dallas, TX, in 1996 as their operations manager, before entering into their sales force and being promoted to manager.

Shatzer-Tunnell attended West Monroe High School in West Monroe, LA, and Louisiana Delta Community College for two years where she studied accounting. She graduated from the 121st class of the National Hardwood Lumber Association’s Inspector Training School, located in Memphis, TN.

In her free time, Shatzer-Tunnell raises registered and commercial Brahman cattle. She also enjoys hunting and being outdoors. She has been married to Todd Tunnell for 18 years and has one daughter, Cheyenne.

OHC is a member of the International Wood Products Association, National Hardwood Lumber Association, North American Deck and Railing Association, Truck Trailer Manufacturers Association and the National Trailer Dealers Association.

Kasey Chaney

Kasey Chaney is director of export sales and manager at Rolling Ridge Woods Ltd., the log-merchandising division of Yoder Lumber Co. based in Parkersburg, WV, with an additional yard in Buckhannon, WV, and sales office in Shanghai, China.

Rolling Ridge Woods brokers high-quality veneer and export logs, selling approximately 2.5 million board feet annually. Saw logs, rotary grade logs and veneer logs are available in Red and White Oak, Black Walnut, Hard Maple, Cherry and Hickory.

The company handles all aspects of export, including door-to-door service, paperwork, certificates, compliances and shipping arrangements.

Rolling Ridge Woods is a member of American Hardwood Export Council, Ohio Forestry Association and West Virginia Forestry Association.

Chaney began working in the forest products industry 20 years ago as a procurement forester for Pine Creek Lumber in Mill Hall, PA, a sawmill owned by Bingaman & Son Lumber. He also worked as a forestry consultant and owned Quality Forest Resources before joining Rolling Ridge Woods in 2008.

After graduating from Cambridge Springs High School in 1997, he received an associate degree in wildlife technology and a bachelor’s degree in forest science, both from Penn State University.

Chaney enjoys spending time with his family and dogs, watching sports, kayaking and taking road trips. He and his wife of 14 years, Tonya, have a son and daughter.
