APA – The Engineered Wood Association Board of Trustees welcomes Scott Poole as its newest member.

Scott Poole is the president and chief operating officer for Martin Sustainable Resources L.L.C. He joined Martin Companies in December 1986 as a member of the forestry team and has since held various roles in forestry, land and timber, manufacturing, and sales. In 2003, he became the highest-ranking non-family member in the company’s history.

He currently serves on the boards of the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry (LABI) and the Louisiana Landowners Association. He is a past board member of the Louisiana Forestry Association and former chairman of the Louisiana Forestry Commission and the Louisiana Forest Products Society. He also previously chaired the Central Louisiana Manufacturers Council and is currently an advisory board member for Louisiana Tech University School of Forestry and the Louisiana Tech Foundation.

Scott graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in forestry from Louisiana Tech University and later earned his MBA from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. He was named Tech Triumph and serves as a guest lecturer in the Lloyd Blackwell Lecture Series at Louisiana Tech University.

He joins the APA Board of Trustees, filling the position vacated by Roy O. Martin III. “We are grateful for the significant time, dedication and leadership Roy has brought to APA,” said President Mark Tibbetts. “His guidance has been instrumental in shaping the association, and we sincerely thank him for his service. At the same time, we’re excited to welcome Scott, and I look forward to working closely with him as we continue to move our association and industry forward.”

APA – The Engineered Wood Association is pleased to announce the appointment of Eric Gu as vice president of its Technical Service Division, succeeding BJ Yeh, who announced his planned retirement for February 2025 earlier this year.

Eric holds a master’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh and received his PhD in civil engineering from Clemson University. He is a licensed Professional Engineer and LEED Green Associate. Previously serving as the PNW Regional Director at WoodWorks, Eric was instrumental in leading educational initiatives and providing technical support for architects, engineers, developers, builders and product manufacturers, with a focus on light-frame and mass timber construction.

Eric brings an extensive background in engineered wood product manufacturing, certification and technical consulting, along with a passion for designing and building with engineered wood, to the association – uniquely equipping him to support APA’s initiatives and members and lead technical advancements in the industry.

“Eric’s background in both manufacturing and structural consulting brings valuable perspectives for our members and the industry at large,” said APA President Mark Tibbetts. “His technical expertise, along with his dedication to sustainable building solutions and education aligns with APA’s mission. We are thrilled to welcome him and confident that his leadership will not only benefit our members but strengthen our role as a trusted industry source for technical solutions.”

In his new role, Eric will oversee lab operations at APA’s 42,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art research center, workplace safety, standards development, and product certification within the Technical Services Division.

“It is such an honor to join the trailblazer of the industry at APA – The Engineered Wood Association,” said Eric. “I’m committed to working effortlessly alongside the senior management team, as well as various stakeholders to advance wood products innovation for member companies and to maintain APA’s leadership in the engineered wood sector.”
