Whit Davis Lumber Plus Acquired By Spahn & Rose

The acquisition of the family-owned lumber and building materials supplier, Whit Davis Lumber Plus, closed on June 20th and the stores reopened on June 23rd. The company has three Arkansas locations in Cabot, Greenbrier and Jacksonville. Despite the acquisition, local management and the Whit Davis name will remain in place.

For over 70 years, Whit Davis has served homeowners and contractors throughout central Arkansas. The business was founded in 1953 in Jacksonville, AR, by Whit and Miriam Davis. Whit Davis offers products in Southern Yellow Pine, Spruce and long Fir.

Dave Davis, the CEO of Dubuque, IA-based, Spahn & Rose Lumber Co., is satisfied with the business deal and praised Whit Lumber’s deep roots in the community, commitment and loyalty, believing those qualities make them a natural fit for Spahn & Rose. Spahn & Rose offers Cedar, Spruce, Pine and Fir.

The Whit Davis acquisition adds to Spahn & Rose’s recent growth in the Southeast, becoming the company’s sixth major addition and 28th location. Other acquisitions include: Metro Building Products in Marietta, GA (2021), Still Lumber in Conyers, GA (2022), and City Lumber in Huntsville, AL (2023). Locations are also operated in Iowa, Wisconsin and Illinois.

84 Lumber’s Westward Expansion And New Plant In Ohio

The opening of a full-service lumberyard in La Mirada, CA, in November will be 84 Lumber’s 11th California location. Just five years ago, the Eighty Four, PA-based company had three locations in that state and the company COO, Frank Cicero, explained that their strategy is to build a presence in markets that are experiencing housing growth.

They have 320 units operating in 34 states with 7,700 people.

While the La Mirada, CA, opening has a date set in the future, 84 Lumber recently opened a 75,000-square-foot component plant for building wall panels and roof and floor trusses in Northwood, OH. The primary focus of the location, which sits on 11 acres, is to cater to the Detroit, MI, area followed by the demand in Southeastern Michigan, Northwestern Ohio and Northeastern Indiana.

The plant has 22 production associates and seven design and office employees working at the truss plant. The business intends to bring their total of associates to 50 and is considering hiring 20 more in the future.

In 2025, the company, which operates over 320 facilities in 34 states, plans to add over 7,500 new customers coast to coast. While their San Diego, CA, location opened on March 24th and was staffed with 20 associates, they completed another project the day after in Riverside, CA — a new location with 40 employees. By year end, the company plans to complete construction on its Beaumont, CA, location.
