Founded in 1992, Dryco Lumber has become a pillar in the distribution of kiln-dried hardwoods. Located in Wayne County, OH, Dryco Lumber is strategically positioned in the hotbed of the hardwood furniture manufacturing industry. Purchasing 3 million board feet in hardwoods annually in 4/4 through 8/4, the facility encompasses 45,000 square-feet. Species available include Alder, Birch, Cherry, Grey Elm, Hard and Soft Maple, Hickory, Poplar, Red and White Oak, Walnut, Quartered and Rift White Oak and eastern white pine.
Quality Over Quantity
Established by Crist Troyer, Dryco Lumber began as a conventional block dry kiln operation where custom drying was done from 1992 until 1999. “The kilns were shut down and all of the lumber was brought in kiln-dried,” Purchasing and General Manager Allen Troyer, who also handles sales, said. “We built a 3,750-square-foot warehouse in early 2000 followed by a 4,800-square-foot millshop in 2010. We also rented two buildings equaling 10,000-square-feet.”
He continued, “In 2020 we bought the land across the road and in 2022, Crist sold the business to his son Aden Troyer who also handles sales. “It was after that acquisition between my father and Aden that we built the 45,000-square-foot steel building to move everything into one location. We take pride in our diverse selection of premium-quality wood, ensuring that our customers find the perfect match for their projects.” In their pursuit to serve diverse and sophisticated needs of their customers, Dryco Lumber offers a wood-finding service to source specialty woods upon request. “Our extensive network of suppliers and industry contacts allows us to hunt down rare and unique hardwood species that may not be readily available in our standard inventory,” Allen explained. “We focus on quality and authenticity, we meticulously locate, assess and obtain the hard-to-find woods for our customers.”
The people at Dryco understand that every project has its own unique set of requirements and challenges. Allen offered, “We pride ourselves in having consistent quality hardwoods where the customer can know they are getting the same quality every time, and we strive to partner with mills and vendors that have the same beliefs and values. Whether it’s for crafting furniture, achieving the perfect fit for a renovation project, or bringing an entirely new concept to fruition, we’re here to ensure every custom order is executed with the highest standards of precision. From consultation to creation, Dryco Lumber’s goal is to make the customers’ woodworking dreams a reality.”
The Core of Dryco
Dryco not only specializes in supplying lumber; they also offer expert level customization. “Our custom millwork services are designed for those who demand precision, versatility and quality in every cut and finish,” Allen explained. “Whether it’s a professional contractor, a cabinet builder or somewhere in between, we supply a comprehensive range of services tailored to meet each customer’s needs.”
Custom options available at Dryco include surfaced two sides (S2S), where the board has been run through a self-leveling OSI planer producing two equally flat faces. Surfaced four sides (S4S) transforming larger lumber into precisely sized, narrow pieces, tailored to meet specific demands of individual projects. With a Cantek straight-line ripsaw, Dryco can provide one straight edge board. The sanding area smooths and refines wood surfaces, preparing them for final finishing or further processing.
As for turn-around time, Allen said it varies, but mostly it can be done with same day or next day availability. “Our orders vary anywhere from 100 board feet up to a truckload quantity,” Allen said. “We take every order into the office, and it’s communicated to the mill manager, and if it’s a rush order it’s expedited. If it’s not a rush, an average order is pulled within two hours after the order. If it’s milled or surfaced, that can be completed in a day after it’s ordered.”
Serving the hardwood furniture sector and various other markets, Dryco’s focus is ardently providing top-tier raw materials coupled with exemplary service. Crist said, “At the core of our operations is a vision that extends beyond commerce; it is to conduct our business in a way that faithfully reflects our values.”
Those values include providing a safe Christian environment; being generous with praise; promoting strong work ethics; embracing change and innovation; practicing the golden rule; practicing integrity; and never criticizing their competition.
