New ANSI Standard 1

APA has a long-standing role in standards development. As an American National Standards Institute (ANSI) accredited standards developer, APA has published the recently revised structural glued laminated timber standard. Last revised in 2020, the updated standard was approved for publication on October 24, 2025. Following ANSI’s Due Process Requirement for American National Standards, the revisions were led with input from a balanced committee comprised of manufacturers, suppliers, and end-users. The 73-page standard includes design values, layup requirements, alternate combinations, essential glulam criteria and more.

Notable changes in the updated standard include:

  • Section 3.2, footnote (e) to Table A2 and C4.5: added Eastern Hemlock-Tamarack and Eastern Hemlock-Balsam Fir as part of the softwood species combinations.
  • Section 4.5, deleted E axial mean
  • C5.3.2.2: added a calculated method for 5th percentile LSE estimation
  • C6.9.8.2: added ATIC T119 as a method for end joint qualification

KICK OFF THE YEAR WITH CEUs

Kick off the new year with a knowledge boost! APA has more than 31 free, on-demand webinars covering engineered wood products, building systems, energy and code requirements, wall bracing, resilient design guidance and more. Earn CEUs for AIA, AIBD, ICC, or RESNET—all while learning at your own pace.

Featured webinars include:

Optimizing Floor System Performance with Engineered Wood Products

Designed for builders, designers, and construction professionals looking to enhance the quality, efficiency and reliability of floor systems. Explore how engineered wood products like I-joists, structural composite lumber, subfloor sheathing, glulam, OSB, plywood and rim board can improve the performance of residential floor systems. Learn practical solutions to common challenges like vibration, deflection and installation missteps. The session covers essential design principles, building code considerations and on-site best practices — supported by APA’s tools, publications, and real-world examples.

APA and IRC Simplified Wall Bracing Methods

Wall bracing design can be complex and involves a variety of adjustment factors, but it is integral for ensuring the safety and stability of a building structure. Wall bracing protects a home against lateral forces like wind pressure. This webinar describes two simplified methods for designing wall bracing in single-family homes: the IRC Simplified method, outlined in the International Residential Code (IRC), and the APA Simplified method, based on testing from the APA laboratory. Both methods have specific qualifications that must be met, and this webinar covers those requirements. In the webinar, you’ll learn the steps required for designing with each method. Detailed examples for both approaches will be provided, giving viewers the tools they need to simplify wall bracing and incorporate it into their designs with confidence.

Resilient Construction with Engineered Wood: Sustainable, Code-Compliant Solutions

Today’s building codes and standards address many of society’s top concerns regarding the built environment—from public health and safety to the environmental impacts of construction materials. As natural disasters become more frequent, severe and costly, the need for more resilient buildings is paramount. Explore the essential role of resilient construction methods in today’s built environment and the various APA resources that can support resilient design. Learn how to meet and exceed code requirements using engineered wood products to build strong, sustainable and energy-efficient structures.
