Newport, NH— LaValley Building Supply, based here, has purchased R.P. Williams, a retail lumber yard in Bristol, NH. The newly acquired yard, which employs 18 people, will serve as a dual-path retail and contractor yard, catering to approximately 85 percent pro – or contractor. This move increases the number of lumber yards owned by LaValley to 11 in addition to their multiple manufacturing locations.

The recently acquired yard will do business under the name of LaValley Building Supply–Bristol. The R.P. Williams lumber, hardware and custom milling operations were started and operated by family for 40 years. “It has an excellent track record and reliable reputation of commitment to serve the needs of the customer every day,” said Larry Huot, president of LaValley. “We have always respected the character and integrity of the Williams family and the professional way they conducted business.  Without a next generation to take over their family business, the timing was right for both of us.  With the same principles, the same values–it easily made sense for us to get together.

“We plan to continue offering custom planing services and also will aim to be a destination with the ability to provide highly custom mouldings with the existing inventory of custom moulder knives and profile grinding to match most any custom milling request.

“Because it is an acquisition, it’s an opportunity to blend in their best practices with our best practices,” Huot noted. “So, we look forward to learning opportunities, business growth and personal career growth for all, together.”

In addition to lumberyards and home centers, LaValley Building Supply is the parent company of DiPrizio Pine Sales, sawmilling/finishing and wholesaling exclusively Eastern White Pine boards and timbers, specializing in patterns.

Also, a Modular Home-building division “Off-Site Custom Homes,” a factory under the marketing names of Preferred Building Systems, New England Homes; a factory for Trusses, Panelized Walls and Precision – Cut Floor Systems called the “Fast Framing” Division; in addition to specialized paint, coatings and decorating retail locations.

LaValley Building Supply, a three-generation family business, was founded in 1962 by Harold and Geraldine LaValley. It is a “one-stop-shop” for new construction, remodel materials services and home center offerings.
