Bangkok, Thailand–The American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC) recently reported that Bangkok the largest city and economic and cultural hub of Thailand served as the obvious choice for the AHEC 25th Southeast Asia and Greater China Convention, which was recently held at Bangkok Marriott Marquis Queen’s Park. It was the second time that Bangkok hosted AHEC representatives from the United States and Hong Kong, totaling 35 member companies from the U.S. and Thai industry bodies, including the Thai Timber Association and the Thai Furniture Industrial Association.

AHEC noted that Thailand is the third biggest U.S. hardwood lumber market in the region, closely following Vietnam and Indonesia. In the first four months of 2022 U.S. hardwood lumber exports to Thailand grew by 45 percent year-on-year to a value of USD7.3 million. American White Oak continues to be the most popular species followed by Ash and Western Alder. American Red Oak is also gaining interest in line with other regions around the world, reported AHEC.

The event promised a packed agenda to include presentations from U.S. experts and cover the most recent market conditions, highlighting opportunities for American timber and Southeast Asian importers, manufacturers and specifiers. AHEC noted that the proven environmental credentials of American hardwood species would be a central theme for the event and would provide information and insight for the industry across the region relating to sustainable business as well as the role of material selection in the future of built environments.

The convention included a mini trade show as well as a speaker’s program.

AHEC’s next pavilion at an international trade show will be in India and Dubai in early March 2023.
