Jimmy Clay

Jimmy Clay heads up domestic and international sales for Parton Lumber Company, located in Rutherfordton, NC. Parton Lumber Company is a large sawmill and dry kiln operation in the Appalachian Mountains that produces 55 million board feet annually.

The company carries Red and White Oak and Poplar in NHLA grades 4/4, 5/4, 6/4 and 8/4 along with some specialty grades and thicknesses. In addition, they also offer Eastern White Pine lumber 4/4, 5/4, 6/4 and 8/4 in Western Wood Product Association and Northeastern Lumber Manufacturers Association grades and timber products in various sizes. Parton has S2S and S4S capabilities that, according to Clay, help customers boost efficiency and profitability. They deal in multiple modes of shipping such as Railroad box/A frame, intermodal, export, flatbed and vans.

He has been in the forest products industry for 40 years and his first job in the industry was spending his high school summers working for his father George Clay at W.M. Cramer Lumber Co. in Hickory, NC, where he packed lumber and pulled lumber off sticks as well as unloaded box cars by hand. Clay graduated from Western Piedmont Community College in Morganton, NC, with an Associate of Arts degree in Business Administration and was a member of the 85th class of the National Hardwood Lumber Association Inspector Training School in Memphis, TN. He assisted in grading lumber, supervising the lumber yard, dry kiln and the rough mill operations for 12 years at Henredon Furniture in Morganton, NC.

He has been married to Jennifer for 27 years, has one son, two daughters and one grandson. Clay’s interests include golf, fishing, biking and God.

Joshua Bond

Joshua Bond is the vice president and operations manager of Turman Forest Products, located in Bedford, VA. Bond is also a member of the Turman Group, which, according to Bond, is a great group of wood product businesses and colleagues in Southwestern and Central, VA. He works within the Turman Group’s sales team for both international and domestic sales, as well as their business development team.

The sales regions for Turman Forest Products, Inc. include many domestic and international markets. They are a hardwood grade sawmill that specializes in manufacturing green, hardwood lumber derived from all Appalachian species, with most of their production including Poplar and Red and White Oak in grades 4/4, 6/4 and 8/4, shipping dry, 3 1/2 x 6 and 3 1/2 x 8 cants. They produced over 8.4 million board feet in 2023 and expect to exceed that in 2024.

The company also offers many unique services and products, such as green and kiln-dried Eastern White Pine cabin logs, Appalachian hardwood grade cross, switch and bridge ties, in addition to custom hardwood beams made to order.

Bond has been in the forest products industry for 25 years and while most of his time is dedicated to serving in his current positions, when needed he also grades lumber and logs, assists in diagnosing daily maintenance issues at the sawmill, procures and designs new equipment and engages in new facility acquisitions. His first job in the forest products industry was cutting timber with his grandfather. Afterwards, he was a maintenance man at Turman Sawmill in Hillsville, VA, and worked through the ranks. He assumed his current position after the Turman Group acquired Turman Forest Products in 2018.

Bond graduated from Floyd County High School and earned an Associate of Business degree in general studies and business from New River Community College in Dublin, VA.

He likes to spend most of his free time outdoors with his son going saltwater fishing, freshwater fly fishing, turkey and deer hunting and visiting with friends.

Steve Jones

Steve Jones is president and director of domestic and export sales for Ron Jones Hardwood Sales Inc., located in Franklin, PA.

Ron Jones Hardwood Sales yearly produces over 10 million feet of domestic hardwood lumber, including the species Cherry, Hard and Soft Maple, Red and White Oak, Hickory, Poplar, Yellow Birch, Ash, and Walnut (FAS/1F, Selects, No.1, No. 2A and No. 3A Common, 3/4, 4/4, 5/4, 6/4, 8/4). The company offers rough and surfaced lumber and provides, truck, rail and container loading.

Jones attended Pennsylvania State University, located in State College, PA, where he graduated with a business degree in 1988. Jones also obtained his Hardwood Lumber Inspector Certificate in 1988 from the National Hardwood Lumber Association Inspector Training School.

Ron Jones Hardwood Sales is a member of the Penn-York Lumbermen’s Club, Pennsylvania Forest Products Association, Indiana Hardwood Lumbermen’s Association, Appalachian Hardwood Manufacturers Inc., Hardwood Manufacturers Association, National Hardwood Lumber Association and the American Hardwood Export Council.

In his spare time Jones enjoys landscaping, golf and spending time with family. He has been married to Danielle for 28 years and the couple has two sons, Nate and Isaac and one daughter, Grace.
