SCMA Hosts Annual Meeting

Members of the Southern Cypress Manufacturers Association (SCMA), along with promotion sponsors, gathered for the association’s 2026 Annual Meeting at the Hyatt Regency Riverfront in Jacksonville, FL. The event was held in conjunction with the Hardwood Manufacturers Association’s 2026 National Conference and Expo. Seventeen people were in attendance.

Michael Oakes, ISK Biocides Inc., Memphis, TN; George Riley and John Haggerty, Williams Lumber Company, Rocky Mount, NC; and Linwood Truitt, Beasley Forest Products Inc., Hazlehurst, GA

Cypress promotion projects and other industry topics were discussed.

All enjoyed a networking reception and dinner. Incoming president and vice president of SCMA respectively are Mike Shook and Logan Josey.

Terry Miller, National Hardwood Magazine, Memphis, TN; Cassie Lewis, Turn Bull Lumber Company, Elizabethtown, NC; and David Summerfield, ISK Biocides Inc., Grovetown, GA

At the recent meeting, SCMA announced that in 2026 it plans to produce several new editorial features, showcasing Cypress in interior and exterior residential applications and highlighting the unique species’ natural qualities and advantages over alternative materials.

Ian Faight, Southern Cypress Manufacturers Association, Pittsburgh, PA; Mike Shook, Norcross Supply Company, Norcross, GA; and Logan Josey, Josey Lumber Co. Inc., Scotland Neck, NC

The SCMA additionally noted it also is developing a new continuing education unit (CEU) for architects and interior designers. This CEU will be a valuable educational tool for the design community and help position Cypress as a preferred building material over other wood species and wood-look products. The CEU will be available as an on-demand course and will be promoted in leading design publications.
