The Southern Cypress Manufacturers Association (SCMA) recently held its 2024 Annual Meeting at The Charleston Place in Charleston, SC. The event was held during the Hardwood Manufacturers Association’s (HMA) National Conference and Expo.
Twenty-five members, promotion sponsors, and staff convened to hear a report on the association’s promotion campaign, preview upcoming projects, and discuss other business items.
Key promotion projects for the year include producing consumer-focused editorial content, partnering with woodworking magazines on how-to project articles and videos, and collaborating with influencers. SCMA members also voted to continue supporting the Real American Hardwood Coalition—and increase the association’s annual contribution.
Also during the meeting, SCMA members elected officers for 2024.
Truss Beasley, Beasley Forest Products (BFP), Hazlehurst, GA, was elected SCMA president. He joined BFP in 2014 and currently serves as vice president of business development for the Beasley Group sawmills and flooring plants. Beasley earned a bachelor’s degree in finance and a master’s in business administration from Georgia Southern University.
Mike Shook, Norcross Supply Company (NSC), Peachtree Corners, GA, was elected vice president. Shook joined NSC in 1991, and currently serves as president and chairman of the board. Shook earned a bachelor’s degree in building construction from the University of Florida in 1989.
Following the meeting, attendees and their guests gathered for a networking reception and dinner, held in conjunction with the HMA President’s Dinner.
