Also available were interactive booths with space for product brochures, information, product displays, videos and a link to their websites, along with “live video meetings” direct from the booth space during the show.
Additionally, GBM featured WoodTALKS™, which was designed to enlighten, inform and inspire on the use of wood in design and construction. This 2-day event was full of opportunities for architects, designers, contractors, developers, public officials and other wood products specifiers to see first-hand what is current in British Columbia’s wood industry, learn and network with colleagues.

WoodTALKS’ topics included:
Commercial/Multi-Residential Mass Timber Projects
Community Mass Timber Projects
Small Mass Timber/Residential Projects
Health + Cultural Heritage Projects
Tall Timber Seismic And Passive House Projects
Timber Advancements and Characteristics in Projects

There were also 16 live 30-minute industry mini-webinars that were available in Exhibitors’ booths. Each carried AIBC 0.5 Core LUs and AIA 0.5 LUs which amounted to another possible 6 LUs for a total of 12 LU’s that could be earned.

Included among these webinars were:

  • Appearance glulam beams, which was presented by Kurt Westerlund of Fraserwood Industries. Westerlund reviewed the appearance classifications, which included framing, industrial, architectural, premium and specialty. Westerlund reviewed from the APA educational material the different characteristics of the different classifications. Fraserwood is a full-service fabricator of timber and glulam structures, backed by a comprehensive suite of products and services.
  • Cedar Shake & Shingle presentation by Tony Hyatt, focused on learning the difference between Shakes and Shingles. Since this presentation was for education units, he explained in detail many aspects of Cedar Shakes and Shingles, including the differences between three main product types, which are: Certi-Split® Handsplit and Resawn Shake, Certigrade® Shingle, and Certi-Sawn® Tapersawn Shake.
  • Overview of the Fire Retardant Treated Wood Industry was also discussed by Bill Hendricks, the representative for Chemco-Watkins Sawmills. He gave an overview of the types of fire-retardant treatments available and their strengths and weaknesses as well as how to assess project suitability regarding architectural versus utility.

Guest speaker seminars focused on commercial/multi-residential mass timber projects, transportation mass timber projects, small mass timber/residential projects and more.
