NELA Members Support Summer Meeting, Prepare For Fall Gathering
The New England Lumbermen’s Association (NELA) recently held their summer meeting in Utica, NY, for a tour of B&B Lumber in the morning and a “Business Discussion” in the afternoon.
Members met in McConnellsville, NY, at the site of the now closed Harden Furniture plant where B&B Lumber now owns and runs their highly efficient sawmill and kilns. Lumber Purchaser and Sales Manager Russ Shamblen was the gracious host as he provided refreshments and a brief history of the plant and its future expansion plans.
The members were then free to roam around the grounds at their leisure and watch the production process.
After the tour, the members convened at the Hotel Utica for lunch before the afternoon “Business Discussion” moderated by President Jon St. Jean from Hull Forest Products. Members were called upon to share their current feelings about hardwood markets and what their predictions were for the remainder of the year around hardwood demand.
Following the afternoon discussion the group left for “Happy Hour” nearby and then returned to the hotel for dinner.
