Penn-York Kicks Off 2026 Meetings; Fitzpatrick & Weller To Host March Event 1

Penn-York Lumbermen’s Club opened 2026 with a meeting hosted by Wagner Hardwoods. The Watkins Glen Harbor Hotel in Watkins Glen, NY, served as the site of the event, which was attended by approximately 60 members and guests.

The dinner meeting included a roundtable discussion. Brian Sexton, Baillie Group, Cayuta, NY, was the moderator.

This was the final Penn-York meeting for Greg Ochs of Hickman Lumber, Emlenton, PA, to serve as club president. The new president is Rob Matson of Matson Lumber, of Brookville, PA.

Started in 1976 by Les Wagner and Steve Schaeffer, Wagner Lumber began sawing hemlock to order.

Over the next 15 years Wagner Lumber grew from two employees to 15 and changed its emphasis to the high quality northern hardwoods. Since 1988 lumber production has increased to over 60 million board feet annually.

In 2001, Wagner Lumber purchased its second facility in Cayuta, NY, called Wagner Hardwoods. This move doubled the size of the company and positioned The Wagner Companies as one of the largest hardwood lumber manufacturers in the northeast, according to the company’s website.

In 2012 Wagner joined forces with Baillie Lumber and today is part of what is referred to as The Baillie Group.
