Crowdfunding Saves Company; Acquisition Of Solid Furniture Maker Also Occurs

Keystone Collections, a solid wood furniture maker in Myerstown, PA, has been acquired by Taunton, MAbased Wyrmwood, which manufactures wooden gaming tables.

According to a statement by the company, Keystone transforms North American lumber, including Cherry and Maple as noted on its website, into solid Hardwood furniture.

Wyrmwood not only acquired Keystone this year but is possibly responsible for one of 2020’s most successful Kickstarter campaigns that saved this company during COVID. Wyrmwood Gaming’s Modular Gaming Table, made from either Cherry, Maple or Black Walnut, as well as a selection of imported woods, at presstime was considered the second-most funded tabletop gaming item of 2020.

According to published reports, the Kickstarter campaign raised more than $8.4 million from a goal of just $1 million.

Wyrmwood started the campaign after COVID closures resulted in workforce layoffs in March. CEO of Wyrmwood, Douglas Costello, took to YouTube to document telling his employees about the layoffs, followed by another YouTube episode in which he and a skeleton crew worked remotely to keep some projects moving.

The result of utilizing social media? Wyrmwood received thousands of pre-orders for its modular tables and according to a company spokeswoman, the firm was able to re-hire all of its approximately 70 employees. Learn more about these two companies at www.keystonecol lections.com and www.wyrm.com.
