Lexington, KY–Members and guests of the Kentucky Forest Industries Association (KFIA) met here recently at the Embassy Suites to celebrate the organization’s 58th Annual Meeting. This year’s theme was “One Team – One Goal.”
The John C. Smith Memorial Golf Scramble, held at the Houston Oaks Golf Course, kicked off the event. U-C Coatings LLC sponsored a $500 cash shootout.
KFIA’s Board of Directors also met to conduct a quarterly meeting to discuss business, along with the results of 2023 legislative session. The day ended with a welcome reception.
The exhibitor’s hall opened the next day, which began with the Opening Session, featuring speakers who discussed legislative updates, the Real American Hardwood Coalition promotion, and endangered species and timber sales opportunities with Kentucky Fish & Wildlife.
The KFIA/KY Tree Farm Awards Luncheon was held in conjunction with the KFIA Business Meeting, where new officers were elected and outstanding individuals were recognized for their achievements in the forest industry community. Also honored were the Kentucky Tree Farmer and Logger of the Year for their accomplishments to support forestry and the wood industry.
The SFI/SIC Committee meeting held open discussion on certification issues and funding of current projects by SFI members.
Additionally, the ever-popular Robinson Lumber Company/Houchens Insurance Group Hospitality Suite welcomed attendees for networking opportunities while enjoying fresh seafood from Louisiana and cocktails.
The final day of the KFIA Annual Meeting included an Open Session that covered the tie markets, health insurance for businesses and the new Kentucky Forestry Works Program, which is designed to get young people more interested in working in the wood products industry.
