APA Names New Chair, Vice Chair, Chair Of Finance, Trustees Join APA Board 1
Matthew Brown

Matthew Brown has been promoted to the newly created position – director of energy policy and code, effective December 18, 2023.

With over 15 years of experience in the construction industry, Brown brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to APA. His career began with a prominent regional production builder and progressed through roles at an energy rating and engineering firm before joining APA in 2014.

Brown’s deep understanding of energy efficiency and sustainability in wood construction makes him exceptionally qualified to educate stakeholders, including raters, code officials, designers and builders, on behalf of the industry.

In his new role, Brown will serve as a key advisor and advocate for APA and its members on energy, code and sustainability policy issues. He will spearhead the development and implementation of strategic energy and sustainability initiatives, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders on behalf of the industry. As director of energy policy and code, he will help educate the public and policymakers on how to leverage engineered wood’s natural R-value and low embodied carbon properties.

Brown holds a degree in construction management engineering technology (CMET) from Purdue University Northwest, is a certified green professional, and has exceptional expertise in energy policy as it applies to wood-frame construction. Outside of his professional life, Brown enjoys barbequing and sharing his culinary skills with others.

“We are thrilled to have Matt in this new role,” said APA President Mark Tibbetts. “His skills in managing operations, problem-solving and building relationships align perfectly with APA’s mission-driven approach. We know he will make significant contributions to advance energy efficiency and sustainability in wood construction.”
