On September 7-8, the American Hardwood Export Council will host its Greater China and Southeast Asia Convention in China for the first time since 2019. The event will be held in the city of Chengdu and will take place just prior to the major FMC Shanghai furniture supply trade show allowing delegates to participate in both events one trip.

Chengdu is the capital city of Sichuan Province and is one of China’s largest furniture manufacturing hubs in addition to being a renowned center for architecture and design. Chengdu’s reputation as a high-tech industrial base, and one of the country’s most vibrant logistic centers and transportation hubs, boasts a direct railway link with Western Europe. Much of the furniture and woodworking activity takes place within the Chengdu Furniture Industrial Park which covers an area of six square kilometers and integrates R&D, production, transportation and supporting services. In addition, the city has one of the fastest growing residential real estate markets in China, with 2022 construction topping 18.9 million square meters (more than 203 million square feet).

In addition to the Chinese participants, delegations from the furniture and interior design industry councils of Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines and Vietnam are also expected to attend. Speakers will include local furniture designers and architects as well as AHEC staff and Dana Spessert, Chief Inspector of the National Hardwood Lumber Association who will provide an introduction to U.S. Hardwood lumber grading for all delegates.
